25 Ekim 1894 - 21 Mart 1973. Şarkışla***8217;nın Sivrialan köyünde doğdu. Asıl adı Veysel Şatıroğlu***8217;dur. 7 yaşında yakalandığı çiçek hastalığından dolayı bir gözünü, daha sonra bir kaza sonucu, az gören öteki gözünü yitirdi.

Evlerine sürekli olarak gelen aşıklardan dolayı türküyle ve bağlamayla ilgilendiğini gören babasının aldığı bağlama Veysel***8217;in yaşamına eşlik etti. İlk bağlama derslerini de babasının arkadaşı Çamşıhılı Ali***8217;den aldı. Yunus, Karac***8217;oğlan, Dertli, Erzurumlu Emrah gibi aşıklardan etkilendi ve türkülerinde onlarla olan duygu yakınlığını yansıttı.

Önceleri usta malı türküler söyleyen Aşık Veysel, 40 yaşlarına doğru kendi şiirlerine ağırlık vermeye ve türküleştirmeye başladı. 1931 yılında gerçekleştirilen Aşıklar Bayramında adı duyulan ve 1933 yılında Atatürk için söylediği bir türküden sonra özellikle Ahmet Kutsi Tecer***8217;in de yardımıyla giderek tüm Türkiye***8217;de tanınmaya başladı. Bu yıllar aynı zamanda Veysel***8217;in kendi türkülerini söylemeye yönelmesi anlamında bir geçiş dönemi olarak sayılabilir. Bu döneme dek köyünden hiç çıkmayan Aşık Veysel bunu izleyen yıllarda Türkiye***8217;nin birçok yöresini dolaşarak kendi yöresi dışında da insanlara türkülerini aktarma fırsatı buldu.

1952 yılında İstanbul***8217;da kendisi için büyük bir jübile yapılan Aşık Veysel***8217;e, 1965 yılında Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi***8217;nin özel bir kararıyla aylık bağlandı.

Türkülerinde kendi özgü bir içtenlikle doğadan insan sevgisine hemen her konuyu işleyen Aşık Veysel, İstanbul Radyosunun ilk yayınlarında da türkü söyledi. 1941-46 arasında, Aşık Ali İzzet***8217;le birlikte Köy Enstitülerinde halk türküleri ve bağlama dersleri verdi. Zamanla Veysel ve Ali İzzet***8217;in temsil ettiği bağlama çalma ve türkü söyleme biçimi başlıbaşına bir tavır olarak yerleşti.

Önceleri yöresindekiler sonra Türkiye***8217;nin her yerinden aşıklarla karşılaştı, tanıştı. Ölümüne dek de sürekli olarak, yaşlı genç aşıklar tarafından ziyaret edildi.

Aşık Veysel***8217;in önemli sayılan ancak pek bilinmeyen bir özelliği de köyünde ilk kez meyve bahçesi kuran ve meyve yetiştiren kişi olmasıdır.

Araştırmacılara göre bağlamanın ilk düzeni olarak kabul edilen ve aslında Aşık Süleyman tarafından kullanılan ancak Aşık Veysel aracılığıyla yayıldığından dolayı aşıklama düzeni (la-re-mi), »Veysel Düzeni« olarak da bilinir.
